“The finest sports league in the world. That is what we aspire too!” – Steve Hellmuth, EVP of Operations and Technology for the NBA. The NBA has over 30 teams in the United States and Canada. Their content is distributed to over 215 countries in 47 languages. The NBA wanted fans to be able to interact with players, stats in a more visual way on NBA.com. In order to do this, the NBA began working on a 7 year internal project with their statistics. Unfortunately, the NBA was not getting the results they wanted for NBA.com.

The number one goal that the NBA wanted to accomplish for NBA.com was to have fan engagement with the stats, to allow them to create their own view. SAP HANA was able to do just that! SAP HANA was the right choice, by allowing 15,000 to 20,000 fans globally to be on the NBA.com website accessing and manipulating stats at the same time! SAP HANA is able to take all of the information behind the scenes and give it to fans in a way it is easy for them to understand instantly.

In addition, SAP HANA has allowed the NBA to open up its history. A fan is now able to look back from 5 to 10 games ago, which has never been done before. Five minutes after the game, fans have all the stats from that on NBA.com. Due to SAP HANA fans are now spending double the time on NBA.com!
